Wood moves.  No matter how much we take care of our wood products, wood will expand or contract as a result of the environment, or how we use it.  Different species of wood will move at different rates.  Maintaining your cutting board will have the most impact in reducing the amount of wood movement and preventing cracks.

Maintenance:

  • Once a month when your cutting board is dry, apply board wax to all surfaces.  Let it sit overnight.  Remove the excess by buffing with a dry cloth.
  • Use cutting board wax sold by RS Makings, or a similar product containing mineral oil and beeswax that is formulated for cutting boards.
